Re: Senator Escudero – Mixed Messaging

The Black and White Movement was dismayed to learn that some senators, among them Sen. Chiz Escudero, are unhappy that we, along with the Akbayan Party List, Jun Lozada, and JC Tejano, filed a motion for intervention and inhibition against Chief Justice Renato Corona because we are not “parties of interest”.

Is the search for truth limited only to the DOJ and Solicitor General? Is the truth regarding the actions of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo not of national interest? Why should civil society stand down?

“This is so sad and confusing. It wasn’t too long ago that we had Chiz’s full support and cooperation when we filed several impeachment complaints against GMA. Was that support just for show? How could he have changed sides so easily? Why is he hitting us now?” says BnW Executive Director Leah Navarro.

BnW has been seeking redress from Gloria Arroyo for years and has not wavered in its advocacy to demand good governance from our leaders. “Karapatan ng bawat mamamayang ninakawan ng boto, pera, at tiwala na maging mapagbantay sa pagsisiguro na mausig ang may kasalanan,” says BnW Lead convener Enteng Romano. He went on to say, “That is what we thought Chiz also believed. It is unfortunate that he has switched sides.”
